7/20/24: Love, Music and Friendship concert
The San Diego Chinese Choral Society held a concert titled Love, Music and Friendship, and banquet on July 20, 2024 at Oasis San Diego (Rancho Bernardo), marking our last concert with Ms. Lucy Lin as director. Many past friends and choir members came to see our farewell concert with Ms. Lin and we wish her a happy retirement while welcoming our new director, Ms. Yu-Ying Emily Lee. 4/6/24: San Diego Sings! 2024
The SDCCS took part in the fifth biennial San Diego Sings! festival hosted by the Choral Consortium of San Diego alongside 14 other local choirs in an all-day event at the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center in La Jolla.

12/3/22 & 12/4/22: Pax Nobis concert
Our 2022 concert, "Pax Nobis (Peace Unto Us)," took place at the Chinese Community Church in Tierrasanta (Sat. 12/3/22) and at the Taiwanese Lutheran Church in Rancho Penasquitos (Sun. 12/4/22), our first concert since the pandemic. 4/2/22: San Diego Sings! 2022
The Choral Consortium of San Diego hosted the fourth San Diego Sings! Festival, this time at the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center in La Jolla. The San Diego Chinese Choral Society took part alongside 14 other local choirs.

3/23/19: San Diego Sings! 2019
The Choral Consortium of San Diego hosted the third biennial San Diego Sings! Festival at Balboa Park. The San Diego Chinese Choral Society took the stage at the Spreckels Organ alongside 21 other local choirs, and joined together to perform "Homeland" and "America, the Beautiful," conducted by Dr. Arlie Langager.

8/19/18: 30th Anniversary Party
The San Diego Chinese Choral Society celebrated its 30th anniversary with a luncheon at China Max, with over 70 old and new members, spouses and friends in attendance.

5/5/18: USD Toreros baseball game
The San Diego Chinese Choral Society was invited to sing the national anthem for the University of San Diego's baseball team, the Toreros, at one of their home games (playing against the Gonzaga Bulldogs). Featuring Ben Adaba on trumpet.

6/18/17: Crystal Children's Choir and WE Singers joint concert
Two Bay Area choirs, the Crystal Children's Choir young men's group and the WE Singers women's ensemble, visited Southern California over the Father's Day weekend, visiting Los Angeles and San Diego. A joint concert was held with the SDCCS at the Chinese Community Church.

10/17/15: Observation of the 70th Anniversary of V-J Day
The Association for Preserving Historical Accuracy of Foreign Invasions in China (APHAFIC) held a commemorative event at the UCSD Price Center Theater observing the 70th anniversary of the conclusion of the Second Sino-Japanese War, and invited the SDCCS to perform. 3/21/15: San Diego Sings! Festival 2015
The Choral Consortium of San Diego hosted the San Diego Sings! Festival 2015 in the Spreckels Organ at Balboa Park. The San Diego Chinese Choral Society participated, joining 19 other local choir groups in an all-day celebration of choral music, including a 1,000 singer performance of a specially commissioned arrangement of "How Can I Keep from Singing?".

1/26/14: Chinese New Year & Farewell Dinner
On January 26, 2015 we held a small dinner at Chin's Seafood and Grill on Miramar Road in celebration of Chinese New Year, and also said good-bye to longtime member Mr. Silas Cheuk, leaving San Diego to join his children. We wish him the best in Chicago and will miss him dearly.
10/5/13: The Art of Bel Canto 2013
On October 5, 2013 the San Diego Chinese Choral Society participated in the Art of Bel Canto 2013 concert, held by our director, Ms. Lucy Lin, and her students, performing two songs, 遺忘 (Yi Wang) and 尋覓 (Xun Mi).

8/24/13: 25th Anniversary Party
On August 24, 2013 the San Diego Chinese Choral Society celebrated the 25th anniversary of its founding in 1988 with a party at the home of founding member Ms. Winnie Fong (法薇). This celebration was attended by over 80 current and former members, featuring a review of the SDCCS's original performance, a prize drawing, and tributes to past leaders and keystones Ms. Ruth Lin (林路得), Ms. Mary Mao (何曼麗), Mr. Jia-Sheng Zhou (周家聲), host Winnie Fong (法薇) and current musical director Ms. Lucy Lin (林秋美). Thanks to all who attended, and to those who helped make this event possible.

7/28/12: 2012 SDCCS Fund Raiser Banquet
On July 28, 2012 The San Diego Chinese Choral Society held a fund raiser banquet at Emerald Seafood Restaurant, featuring group performances, karaoke and general entertainment. We thank our friends for attending this event, as well as Ms. Aeria Chang and Beatitude Aesthetic Medicine for their kind prize donations.

4/16/11: To Mothers With Love Concert
The San Diego Chinese Choral Society held a concert on Saturday 4/16 at the Good Samaritan Episcopal Church in early observance of Mother's Day. In addition to vocal selections from Mozart, classical Chinese composers, contemporary Broadway and movie themes and music from around the world, this performance also showcased the talents of Brian Sumwalt (percussion), Dr. Weiping Wang (dulcimer), Dr. Xiaonan Zhang (erhu) and Tracie Yang (flute).

2/5/11: Vi at La Jolla Village Performance
The San Diego Chinese Choral Society, a Touch of Opera Studio and the Xifan Guqin Society were invited to hold a small concert in recognition of the Chinese New Year at the Vi at La Jolla Village assisted living center. The three groups performed to an audience of 100, with the SDCCS performing two songs, 星月交輝 (The Moon and Stars Shining Bright) and 回憶 (Remembrance).
10/23/10: The Art of Bel Canto Concert
In cooperation with Ms. Lucy Lin's A Touch of Opera studio, The San Diego Chinese Choral Society held a combined concert on Saturday 10/23 at the Good Samaritan Episcopal Church to another full audience. Featuring a guest performance by one of Ms. Lin's alumni students, Ms. Kyoko Yamaguchi, this also marked the first concert by the students of Ms. Lin's La Jolla studio, as well as the debut of the Choral Society's two new piano accompanists, Mr. Dan Yu and Ms. Hua Wang.

3/27/10: The Beauty of the Earth Concert
The San Diego Chinese Choral Society's annual concert took place this year at the Torrey Pines Christian Church in La Jolla, to a packed house of over 500 people. Over the course of an hour and a half, the SDCCS performed 15 pieces spanning Chinese compositions, Italian opera and Broadway musicals, and featuring a musical interlude with Dr. Xiaonan Zhang on the Chinese Erhu and Mr. Jiasheng Zhou on piano accompaniment. We thank everyone in the audience for attending, and hope to see you at the next concert.

In celebration, Mr. and Ms. Meng hosted a pot luck party at their home on 4/4. In addition to a wealth of great food, this also featured a viewing of our performance, courtesy of Mr. Sam Ho, as well as announcements of our new officers and other changes going into the next concert cycle.
Ms. Lin also hosted a second pot luck party at her own home on 5/8.
2/27/10: Taiwanese American Foundation of San Diego 13th Anniversary
The Taiwanese American Foundation of San Diego held its 13th anniversary celebration and fundraising dinner at the Taiwanese American Community Center, with entertainment organized by Ms. Helena Wei. Ms. Wei graciously invited the San Diego Chinese Choral Society to participate, and the SDCCS performed three pieces: Poem by Li Bai (lyrics by Qui Wen-Chung), Soave sia il ventro from Mozart's "Cosi Fan Tutte", and a Taiwanese folk tune, One Little Umbrella (by Chen Cheng). 1/17/10: We Chinese in America 100th Issue Celebration
On Sunday, Jan. 17, the San Diego Chinese Choral Society was invited by the San Diego monthly magazine "We Chinese in America" (合唱, website) to perform at its special 100th issue celebration event. Billed as "The First in US: Poetry Reading and Music Concert," the magazine's publishers brought together literary and music groups from diverse San Diego Chinese communities for a festive evening's program to an audience of over 800.
The SDCCS served as the opener for this event, performing two songs. Fittingly, the first song --- The White Clouds --- was a poem by Li Bai, the immortal Tang poet (李白:白雲歌送劉十六歸山). The second song, Descendants of the Dragon (候德健:龍的傳人), was a widely acclaimed campus-protest movement classic from the 1970s. Our enthusiastic music director, Ms. Lucy Lin, conducted the performance beautifully, and a good time was had by all.
2/28/09: Rehearsal with Anna Carson
Ms. Anna Carson, a renowned soprano performance artist and vocal instructor, graciously held three special rehearsal sessions with the San Diego Chinese Choral Society, the last of which took place on Saturday, February 28. Ms. Carson provided the SDCCS on voice training, assistance with Italian and other guidance. Many thanks go out to Ms. Carson -- we hope to put her instruction to great use.
8/9/08: SDCCS Party
On Saturday, August 9, the San Diego Chinese Choral Society held an informal party at the rehearsal center at Mira Mesa Blvd. Over the course of 4 hours, members enjoyed food and games, and got a chance to know one another better. Events included charades, joketelling, a variety of performances, word riddles and prize raffles.
6/7/08: Hope Charity Concert
On June 7, 2008, the American Chinese Culture and Education Foundation (ACCEF) and San Diego Chinese Association (SDCA) organized a benefit concert, raising funds to aid the victims of the May 12 earthquake in the Sichuan province of China. The concert was a great success, collecting 1.3 million dollars, including a $1 million donation from PEMGROUP (Irvine, CA). Several groups took part in the performance, which included several vocal ensembles, instrumental and poetry recitals and more, comprising 14 pieces in all. As part of the concert, the SDCCS performed its signature piece, 我的中國心 (Wǒ De Zhōng Guó Xīn, "My Chinese Heart").

3/29/08: An Evening of Classic Melodies
On March 29, 2008, the San Diego Chinese Choral Society performed to a full audience at the San Diego Chinese Community Church in Tierrasanta. The program featured 18 pieces, including four solos and several men's and women's ensembles over the course of the two hour performance.
1/5/08: ACCEF 2008 Chinese New Year Celebration
On January 5, 2008, the San Diego Chinese Choral Society participated in the American Chinese Culture and Education Foundation's (ACCEF) New Year Celebration at the Poway Performing Arts Center. The SDCCS performed 我的中國心 (Wǒ De Zhōng Guó Xīn, "My Chinese Heart") on stage, and combined with the San Diego Sunshine Choir (陽光合唱團), the San Diego Zhonghua Choir (中華藝術團), the Hometown Choir (老鄉合唱團) and the Sound of Spring Choir (春之声合唱团) in a joint performance of 今夜无眠 (Jīn Yè Wú Mián, "Sleepless Tonight").
